During their adolescence, they were shown the real world and they developed a deep outlook about it. Their dreams were to become free and live an independent life like men. They were in a protective household where they had a lot of restrictions in life. ![]() They had in a house near a farmside with a strict household that required everyday duties to be fulfilled. The sisters lived a life of an ordinary girl in the 20th century. Their approach towards their lives and their unusual bravery at such young age shows that the Mirabal sisters were too green and innocent to understand the extend of the cruelty and mental distress that they faced by fighting against the government. Julia Alvarez depicts these young sisters being too involved in the concept of the revolution that their minds were diverted from their own life that caused them to become unconscious about the real world and kept them from achieving their goals. Somehow the women’s attention to the suitable situations in the society caused them to divert their focus from their lives to the society. The women were so confident that they thought that they could manage both, their family and the revolution. Their time with their family was being sacrificed because they were very much committed to the revolution. Sometimes, they came across the daunting question of whether they should choose their family or the society. They were being suppressed quite a bit, but they undauntedly endured the state of torture and continued to fight against the vicious people. Even after facing setbacks, they stayed determined to fight back against the overpowering government. They bravely led the revolution to improve the situation of the society. The Mirabal sisters in the In the Time of Butterflies are the gallant heroes of the Dominican Republic who set an archetype of the awe-inspiring women. ![]()
